The 2010 CGAP Survey on Financial Access

Financial Access 2010 is the second in a series of annual reports by CGAP and the World Bank Group to monitor statistics for financial access around the world and to inform the policy debate. The series was launched in response to the increasing interest in financial inclusion among policy makers and the development community.

The 2009 Banana Skins Report

The 2009 Microfinance Banana Skins Report has been published by the London-based Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation (CSFI). The report is sponsored by Citi and CGAP, with the Council for Microfinance Equity Funds (CMEF) serving as a member of the steering committee. 

This year’s report reflects the fundamental shift in the sector risk landscape, as perceived by participants, since the 2008 report. The global economic and financial crisis of the past year has brought to the forefront risks of credit quality, liquidity and funding that are commanding the attention of investors.

MIX: 2009 Report on Microfinance in Africa

The 2009 Africa Microfinance Analysis & Benchmarking Report, produced in partnership with CGAP, examines key growth trends, major legal and regulatory changes, funding for microfinance, and performance of MFIs throughout the region. It also delves into the impact of the global financial and economic crisis, and various regional crises, on the four sub-regions of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Drawing on data collected from 195 African MFIs, as well as surveys of funders and microfinance investment vehicles (MIVs), the 2009 report shows that microfinance institutions in Africa enjoyed relatively stable performance in 2008 and the sector proved resilient to multiple shocks.

The 2008 Rating Market Outlook Report

This report, which was published by ADA asbl in collaboration with KPMG and the European Union, aims at providing an overview of the state of the microfinance institutions rating market as at the end of 2007.

2007 saw demand within the microfi nance rating market grow by 19.5% and 539 ratings were performed bringing the global grand total to 2,280. With almost 1,000 MFIs having undergone a rating between 1997 and 2007, the microfinance rating market has developed from a negligible sector to a self-sufficient and mature market in certain countries.

2008 MIX Global 100 Composite

The MIX Global 100 Composite Ranking presents 100 leading microfinance institutions, out of a sample of 652 that are profitable and top performers for the balance of results achieved among three key attributes: outreach, efficiency, and transparency. When each of these areas is viewed as a goal of microfinance, this ranking measures the balance achieved by an individual MFI, relative to the other MFIs considered for the ranking.
